Airline Entertainment For Rookies

By: Tom Tessin

If you’ve never flown before or you’re a seasoned veteran, the best way to fly is by the way of keeping yourself entertained. If you’re anything like me, I can’t usually sleep on an airline because my head always tends to tip forward making it very uncomfortable. Instead of sleeping, I pack a little bag of goodies and I’ll show you exactly what you should pack on your next flight to make it a breeze.

The first thing you’re going to want to study is how long you’ll be in the air. Are you going to travel across the ocean for hours or will it be a hour flight? The hours matter because this is how much entertainment you’re going to need to bring. The next thing you’re going to want to do is think of your hobbies and how much you’re willing to spend on these hobbies, you’ll see what we will need to know this number coming up.

Reading is your best friend

Reading is probably the cheapest way to keep yourself entertained but beware that it can get old after awhile especially if you’re up in the air for over ten hours, trust me. If you have some books lying around at home that you haven’t read, pick them up and bring them along. I advise that you stay away from books you’ve read; you may start reading and find that it’s boring since you know what will come next sort of like a re-run

on TV.

The next cheapest thing you can bring is probably a newspaper or magazine. If you want a newspaper, it’s probably best just to pick one up at the airport once you pass through security. A newspaper isn’t usually marked up and it will only cost you around one dollar. A newspaper can really make the time fly.

Bring the electronics

I don’t know how tech savvy you are but in today’s era, you can basically bring anything you see at home on the go. From TVs to portable gaming systems, you really can have it all. Before you do take these gadgets on the plane, make sure that they are approved and that the battery is charged 100%. The last thing you’ll want to do is hop on the plane and find out that the battery isn’t charged. The best way to do so is just pop it on before you leave and see what the status is.

Snacks are good as well

Nothing passes time like a good snack. If you’re on a flight for a few hours, a snack can pass the time. Something usually like chex mix or a bag of chips can really make time fly when you dip your hand in and out of the bag. The time goes by even faster if you have a window seat.

There are millions of ways to keep yourself entertained and this list is just a portion of what can keep you busy. See what you do at home and try to imitate it on a plane.
