Credit Checks Can Effect Your Life

By: Daniel Lesser

More and more businesses are requiring credit checks before servicing you. These days, having good credit is a must in order to be able to operate successfully. Otherwise, you might find yourself turned down after having applied for a loan, mortgage or even employment. There are a few things you can do in order to be sure that you have as high a credit score as you can.

When a company requests your report from a credit report company, they are looking for several things. They want to know that you pay all your bills on time. They prefer that you not carry large balances each month on your credit cards. It is important that you do not miss any of the payments. It is also important that you are never late paying. Missing or being late with payments lowers your score.

If you do not have spotless credit there are numerous methods that you can use to improve your credit score. At least once a year you should file to receive a copy of your credit report from all three credit bureaus. Carefully examine your report to make sure that all of the companies it lists are companies you actually have accounts with. A large portion of people notice that their reports contain errors; disputing these errors with every credit bureau will help to improve your score.

An over-abundance of credit checks can lower your credit rating by a not insignificant amount. Signing up for store cards and credit cards you do not need is ill advised, even if there is a provision of a discount or gift - the bonus you receive is likely worth less than the downgrading of your credit score.

Many different possibilities exist for increasing a credit score and making your financial record look better. However, none of them are simple or easy. One of the best is to obtain secured credit cards. They all report to the major credit agencies, and if you pay them promptly, your score should increase. The ideal number of available credit sources is a minimum of three.

While there are several methods to improve your credit report in preparation for credit checks, the best advice you can receive is to simply improve your credit by becoming a conscientious consumer. Only apply for credit that you need and be sure to keep all of your balances low. Pay off all accounts as quickly as possible.
