How To Make Your Modern Bedroom Decorating Idea Come To Life

By: Lee Dobbins

If you are attempting a bedroom makeover you probably want a great modern look. Thankfully, there's plenty a modern bedroom decorating idea to be had in decorating magazines, books and on TV shows. Trying to reproduce design ideas can be challenging when you are trying to work with a differently-shaped room, different window layout, or any number of other different factors that can make idea implementation just that much more challenging. However, if you work within some basic guidelines of modern design, you can obtain a great-looking bedroom.

Color

Lots of designers are showing bedroom templates that focus on two or three colors in isolation--combining a dark brown with a pink or blue, for example, for an unconventional but modern look. Various browns and white are acceptable modern colors. A color palette of black and white with a bold accent color will stand the test of time. One color that is very popular is chocolate brown and this can be used in varying shades of darkness. The best thing about this color palate is that they not only provide a warm tone, but they also go well with most modern day furniture pieces.

Pattern

If you want your bedroom decorating to say "modern," steer clear of ornate patterns in the rugs and fabrics. The mix of basic colors with different textures can create interesting new decorating looks. Modern designs work well with geometric patterns that incorporate squares, circles-even amoeba shapes.

Furniture

You want to use clean, simple lines on your modern furniture. With this type decor, dark wood normally works best. While the rounded lines of a sleigh bed may be lovely, they are not compatible with the end result you are trying to achieve. Simple straightforward designs will be more eye catching then a room that is too busy. Brushed metal is a great, simple hardware look.

Accessories

Too many accessories can clutter a design, which isn't what you want with a modern bedroom. If you're working on a budget, a stunning way to decorate a side table or mantelpiece is to put one large flower in a slim modern vase, avoiding the cost of a full bouquet. Sparingly place a few items around the room rather then filling it with clutter. Focus on clean, spare lines and steer clear of fussy elements like lace and ruffles. Try adding a modern work of art to your new room--one that really enhances the colors around it.

You can play off of any modern bedroom decorating idea you like for your bedroom. Combine your own design style with the decorating rules above for a unique look that reflects your personality.
