Keeping The Vacation Homes Clean

By: Lewis Pennington

Whether you have a rambling beach house or a secluded lake cabin, you need to insure your vacation homes are kept clean and tidy even when you are not there. What you need are viable options! Not surprisingly, there are copious numbers of options just waiting for you, and there is an option that will fit your lifestyle and budget.

First, let us explore why you should be worried about keeping those vacation homes clean and tidy!

When it comes to staying clean, a residence is up there at the top of the “to do” list. Whether you have a homeowner’s association or just trying to keep the critters at bay, a clean residence will just look better. However, sometimes you will also want to take those vacations without having to clean for half your stay once you arrive. Keeping things cleaned on a regular basis will insure your vacation homes are ready to go when you are instead of with a little bit of work.

Now that we have an idea of why keeping those residences cleaned and tidy is important, let us explore a few viable options that may or may not work for you!

Hire a housekeeper. Whether you have a villa in Mexico or a cottage by the lake, there are also going to be people in the local area willing to make regular stops at your residence for a fee. Generally, a once a week cleaning is more than enough, but you can go to as little as once a month. Pay the housekeeper in advance, and you will find you have a loyal employee. You can find someone by putting a local help wanted ad in the local print media, find a college student, or even hire a friend in the area.

Find renters that will pay you. Many people are opposed to renters, but the truth is that if you only use a residence one week a year, you can make quite a bit of money by finding renters. In fact, you can pay for the property with what you make from the renters. Of course, you will want to be picky with who you choose for your vacation homes, but you will discover the hidden benefit of seasonal or part time renters.

Board it up. If you are going to be away for a long period of time, you will want to board the house, cottage, or villa up if you will not have anyone there. Squatters and other people will enjoy your house if you do not take steps to insure your second residence looks lived in. Boarding up the home can save time, money, and hassles.

When it comes to vacation homes, you will want to make sure the property is well maintained while you are away. Sometimes, there are group efforts such as associations that keep all the properties in good working order and safe, and sometimes, you will want to take extra steps to insure your property is kept in good working order. Nothing is as bad as finding out that last winter your pipes burst, and no one noticed for 6 months.
