Singapore Personal Trainer Warns: "You Are Getting Cheated By Supplement Companies"

By: Jonathan Wong

If you thought the personal training industry is unregulated, I would warn you that from my experiences in Singapore and around the world, the supplement industry is even less regulated

It's really "my word against yours" most of the time... when it comes to the supplements really doing what their labels claim.

Add to this some really deceptive and misleading advertising campaigns and it becomes a big minefield for buyers!

At least when choosing a personal trainer or fitness coach, you can watch a trainer and see if he/she is good or not... but you would have to send a supplement to a lab to get it analyzed.

Because I am a fitness professional and personal trainer in Singapore, I only wish to recommend the best products to clients!

I sleep soundly each night safe in the knowledge that only quality products get recommended and sold to my clients:)

There is such a wide variety of supplements in Singapore and in many other countries out there, and they vary wildly with prices and of course with quality! Let's take for example a multi vitamin formula...

It is possible to make a multi-vitamin appear very complete (look good on the label) yet very cheap - and of course POOR QUALITY.

Here is how:

* Choose less absorbable ingredients (that look the same on the label...) for example, a quality ingredient like Magnesium Aspartate has a high absorbablitly of 58%, but a low quality one like Magnesium Oxide ... 5%! more than 11x less... but hey... most consumers can't tell the difference!

BTW a good multi vitamin blend does not cost 11x more than a lousy one, so its certainly a good idea to go with the best ones!

* Make low quality tablets/capsules by packing them with filler and compressing them so that they have low density of nutrients (this means that for low cost, you can sell hugh capsule numbers on the bottle front "640 capsules" and so on!).

This has the added advantage that your capsules will never break apart giving an even higher appearance of quality!

Unfortunately this also means that the capsules will not dissolve! You can often see low quality capsules pass right through your digestive tract and exit your body unutilized... another waste!

* Use synthetic additives that are not in "nature's balance" for proper use. Natural beta carotene or vitamin E is not the same as synthetic ones because the natural one will be complete in all its forms. The way God intended it to be. the many forms help you use the vitamin fully. The synthetic ones only look good on the labels.

Another ingredient that is often problematic is vitamin C. Most multi-vitamins only put in ascorbic acid. But for vitamin C to have its full benefits, you need bioflavanoids as well. In a 1:2 ratio (bioflavanoids 1, ascorbic acid 2).

There we have it, 3 ways to make a lousy multivitamin supplement. As a personal trainer in Singapore, the ones I recommend don't use these methods. Use 2-3 different multi vitamin blends and rotate them (or randomly take a few from each blend each day) this makes sure that your vitamin and mineral bases are covered!
