Take Care Of Your Equipment, Being Successful As A Fisher Depends On It

By: Marcel Bernard

All fisher know, or should know, that you need the right type of equipment for each type of fishing. If you didn't know that then the question should be why are you fishing, you are better of staying at home watching the television from the comfort of your couch. If you really want to become a successful fisher should keep your fishing equipment in perfect working condition.

First, the expensive part of the equipment, the reels and rods. They require just a bit of maintenance but should not be forgotten when you want them to keep working properly. Check your rods for any cracks that may have occurred over time or maybe it got there last time when you reeled in that big catch. Small cracks can often times be repaired without costing to much while it keeps you from buying a new one at greater cost.

Reels are constantly in use when you are fishing and dirt and other stuff are easily picked up from the water while you reel in the line. That's why you always need to keep your reels clean. When you are cleaning your reels do not forget the gears inside them. If you don't keep those clean and well lubricated they will become stiff and will stop to function correctly. This will take some time and could be viewed as a difficult task but has to be done if you don't want any surprise on your next fishing trip. Also make sure you clean the outside of the reels when you close them up again, there could be excess lubricant on them.

As all things in life the line on your reel has an expire time. You should not over use it because the line will become brittle and will probably break at a moment you don't want it to. Also if you caught a lot of fish with a line it will have stretched a lot and that leaves weak points. A good point for changing the line is at the same time that you are going to clean the real.

Some equipment tips

To keep your rods looking brand new you should start cleaning the cork on the handles and even the rods them self with alcohol. You can buy alcohol pads for little money and won't get in the way at your fishing trip. They are great to make your rods shine.

Some times you need some easy way to remind yourself of things that happen while your fishing. Don't you hate it when you see that problem with one of your rods but when you come home just can't remember what it was only to come across it again on your next trip? Why don't you take a notepad and pen with you on your fishing trip, then you can make a note for yourself what needs to be repaired or improved before you start on your next trip. This way you can also note the nice fishing "honey holes".

If you have one then you should consider your boat part of your fishing equipment. The last thing you want during your fishing trip is your boat to break down on you. Always take some tools with you when go on a boat fishing trip. And a flash light is no luxury either.

Don't get surprised by your own equipment if it can be prevented by good maintenance.
