Thomas The Train Set – Not Only For Kids

By: Tim Beachum

Ok I must confess. The truth must come out. I use to hate Thomas The Train and his crazy friends. It all started with my nephew who would drive me crazy with Thomas The Train. Thomas was slowly but surely taking over my life. In fact I was so inundated with Thomas The Train I thought it would only be fair if Thomas starting helping out by doing some chores and paying some bills.

When my nephew is over to the house - which is everyday. I have to put up with Thomas on television – in surround sound no less. I have to put up with Thomas blaring through my home stereo. Not to mention the pain of stepping on little Thomas The Train Set Toys allover the floor in every room of the house. The gloves were about to come off. It was time for me to put my foot down with Thomas and my nephew. After all I should be able to watch whatever I wanted to on television. I should be able to come home and list to a little Jazz on my stereo if I wanted too.

I was fed up. The decision was made. I wasn’t going to live one more day with Thomas The Train. I didn’t want to hear his silly little theme song. It was time to standup and show my nephew and Thomas The Train who was the boss. I was going to look my nephew straight in the eyes and tell him, “NO MORE THOMAS!” I new I had to stick to my guns. I was ready! Round one was about to begin (ding ding).

Needless to say round one was a knockout. My nephew and Thomas had won. That is when I decided if I couldn’t beat them I would join them. That’s when I set out to learn everything that I could about the entire Thomas The Train Set. I was totally blown away by the history of this little train that had moved into my home. I was literally blown away by the story of Rev. Awdry and his son. I found the story to be motivational – especially the part about a middle class family found success by accident. Some may even say that it was destiny.

After all of my research I found myself with a newfound love for the entire Thomas The Train Set. My three-year-old nephew began teaching me the names of each of the characters. I must admit that I still do not know the names of all of the trains as well as my nephew does, but I’m still learning.

My nephew and I spend most of our time together with Thomas and his friends. In fact we have recently built our very own Thomas The Fan Site.
