Why Do Women Relapse After A Spiritual Retreat

By: Gabriel Adams

Many women attend spiritual retreats in order to get in touch with their religion and with themselves. It is a great way to discover new things about your self, find the motivation to make the right choices in your life, and to rejuvenate. Many women feel refreshed after such a retreat and they are ready to face the world with a new attitude and plenty of determination.

However for many women these feelings are short lived because they soon relapse to their old patterns of behavior. There are many different reasons why this happens. The retreats generally only last a couple of days but then the women return to their old ways of life. If they don’t make immediate changes to remove themselves from the environment they were in they have a high rate of relapse. Making such changes is often much easier said than done though.

For example a woman who is the victim of domestic violence may decide you is going to confront her spouse. She will give him the chance to attend counseling or she will be leaving. He attends counseling for a while and things are better but then the abuse happens again. If she doesn’t leave then she is allowing it to continue happening and it will get harder and harder for her to walk away.

The support that a woman has in place after she leaves a spiritual retreat is important. Many women who are facing difficult situations suffer from low self esteem. That makes it harder for them to follow through with their desires to do better and they relapse. Once they leave the spiritual retreat they don’t have that support around them to help them find the strength they had. Instead the second guess their decisions and blame themselves for what is taking place around them.
