We engrave onto the edges and faces of 1½" (40mm) thick boards up to a size of 12"x18" (30x45cm), beyond this size we engrave onto the face of the board only. For all 1" (25mm) thick boards and any Bamboo boards we only engrave onto the face of the board.

In many a western movie you will notice the long, polished-wood bars of fancy saloons and once in a while the bartender would send a mug or glass sliding down the smooth surface. In some cases the wood was laminated but in most the heart of a hardwood tree made up the entire piece.

This has the look of a chopping board, is less liable to warp and makes a good cutting surface as it is much harder. Varnished plywood can also make a good and very reasonably priced worktop. The cost varies according to the type of wood and application: generally speaking, the more hardwearing the wood, the higher the cost.
