  • The Effect Of Spiritual Light On The Presidential Election - Spiritual light has to do with three central things, among others: 1) heightening the capacity for empathy and love and the desire to share love, 2) bringing into greater awareness a sense of truth and an increasing sense of what only masquerades as truth, 3) and enhancing the motivation of those holding greater light to adopt courses of action that are not...
  • The Glass Ceiling of The White House - For a Woman, It's More Like Solid Stone! - After Hillary's attempt to make it to the Oval Office, who can women look to as their next "Great Female Hope"? From Condé Naste, to NAFE (National Association of Female Executives), to Pink Magazine, all eyes and journalistic talents are focused on the Catalyst's latest report. The news is not good, not good at all! The numbers are bringing tears to the eyes of those who thought gender bias was a thing of the past. Women have lost ground with corporate positions, actually dropping to 15.4% in 2007 as compared to 16.4% in 2005. This result is based on Fortune 500 companies. We can't even begin to figure the statistics in non-Fortune 500 companies in corporate America.

  • A Student Government Election Made For TV - The Sequel - This day, May 6, 2008, I spot a front page headline in my local New Jersey paper, The Trenton Times that reads: Ewing H.S vote is void a second time. I had previously commented on my hometown high school's senior class elections in a prior post, so I read on. Seven students, one black and Hispanic, five black and one white, were barred from running in their senior class elections on April 23. The reason given was that the students had missed too many meetings for school activities and had not sufficiently participated in school fundraisers. In my previous post on this election, I commented that such requirements were unreasonable for a student election; we do not require adults to show prior experience in politics to run for public office.

  • Wizarding Your Way to Advocacy Success: Five Rules From Harry Potter - OK, I admit it. That was me you saw at the Barnes and Noble Georgetown on Saturday July 21st at 1:00am buying the new Harry Potter book. My husband, who went with me for the sole purpose of ensuring I wasn't mugged once in possession of said book, was extremely embarrassed. He made it clear to anyone who would listen that he was not there of his own free will.
  • Alternatives to Torture, 1 - We live in a tough old world. As a recent film tries to tell you, it's possible that you will be snatched off the street tomorrow by people you don't know, bound and gagged and flown off to some far-distant part of the world where you can be interrogated. Oh, all right, then, we'll tell the truth.

  • An Ideal Age For Business - What is the ideal age to start in business? In paid employment and especially politics there is definitely ageism at work. Some politicians in the past have had to retire as leader of their parties because they were deemed to be too old to appeal to the voters. Business has no age barriers. When it comes to starting a business your age and experience will stand you in good stead. Many successful businesses are managed by people close to retirement age.
  • A McCain-Giuliani Ticket? It's Not So Far Fetched - I am not on the inside of any presidential campaign, but I consider myself to be a good student of politics. And as a writer, I have the luxury of going against the grain on campaigns and issues. I am also not a Republican — so I don't expect the leaders of the Grand Old Party to take my advice. But as a political writer, I have an obligation to inform, and hopefully entertain my readers. And plenty of readers will find the idea of a McCain-Giuliani ticket entertaining, if nothing else. It's not news that John McCain has locked up the Republican nomination and deservedly so.
  • Gaza Strip’s Plight - A great number of men, women and children in the Gaza Strip live in one of the most chaotic environments on Earth. The escalating violence between warring political factions such as the Palestinians and Israelis has caused many to doubt the prospect of a peaceful state. And many are wondering if the Gaza Strip will return to its former grandeur as the gem Mediterranean. The Gaza Strip is rife with political contradiction and corruption. In retrospect, the actions of the Palestinians to retain control of Gaza have been considered by many to be outrageous and condemnable.
  • Most Common Interesting Facts About Panama - As Panama is mostly visited by tourists as a developing country and one that is involved in trade, tourism, real estate, commerce, and banking, it can be observed that there are...
  • Freedom of Religion?...Yeah RIGHT!...As Long as it is Theirs! - This is not about us. It is about a religious right movement aimed at controlling our private lives, who we can be with, what we can do in our bedrooms, and with our bodies. And some how, they have ordained themselves with the superiority of God in their pursuit of this righteous behaviour that their beliefs are the only way to salvation. Wow! Such arrogance...
  • An Honor Roll, Not A Watch List, For Colleges - Members of Congress on the House committee on education have come up with an absolute bonehead idea: to publish a "watch list" of schools that have increased tuition at rates higher than inflation. I am surprised when members of the House speak of reigning in college costs with measures such as this, when they fail to do the same for health care.
  • SAT Optional Schools Not Always Easy Schools - It has been 30 years since I was a high school senior, but I had to take the SATs just as 11th and 12th graders do now. I did okay, but not good enough to get into my two first choice schools. Back then, I blamed the SATs and called them unfair, but life went on. I graduated happily in four years from the school I chose. I am no better qualified to evaluate the validity of the SAT today than I was in high school, but I know that the test is still a fact of life.
  • Ad’ Campaign to Promote Sarkozy’s Election Promise - The French government has launched a media blitz in an attempt to convince people that it really is winning the battle to increase purchasing power. In the coming weeks the French will be treated to over 1,600 TV commercials as well as Internet advertising and full page spreads in the national and regional daily newspapers. It’s all part of a drive by the government to get across three measures it has taken to increase purchasing power;
  • An Astronaut For Second Chair On The Democratic Ticket - While I went out on a long limb to suggest that Rudy Giuliani may be the best running mate for Republican presidential candidate John McCain, I am at a loss to guess who would run with whom on the Democratic ticket.
  • The First Lady Sings - For some it will be a date to note in their diaries and one on which they will undoubtedly rush out in anticipation to the record stores. For others it will quite possibly be time to clap their hands over their ears in an attempt to protect their hearing.

  • SEO BLOGS & WORDPRESS - Even our dear WordPress which so many search engine optimization professionals sincerely love and prefer as a blogging platform, is misinformed or at least, subject to making sweeping generalizations. This is the "banned" category: And here are some examples of blogs that are banned from WordPress.com (all of these fall under the general heading of "spam blogs", or splogs, and we will be deleted as soon as we find them or they get reported): • Scraper blogs: Blogs that take content from other blogs and re-publish it without permission (this is sometimes called scraping). If a blog contains all or mostly stolen and unoriginal content, it's gone!
  • Culture and Collusion - Condoning Corporate Anarchy (Part One) - © Leanne Faraday-Brash A client of mine was talking to me about their previous job as internal legal counsel for a professional services firm. His first week in his old job was particularly memorable, he reminisced. A distressed employee had come to him with a formal complaint alleging sexual harassment against one of the senior partners.

  • Saving Social Security—The Future Of A Historical Piece Of Legislation - Social security and its future are one of the most controversial issues discussed in politics today, with many different views and outlooks taking center stage. The law that was designed by Franklin D. Roosevelt to protect the elderly and provide services and compensation to them in retirement finds itself in a completely different context today than it was seventy years ago. Yet, change is nothing new—it is a daily occurrence that has affected social security before, and that will continue to affect social security in the future. Understanding both sides of the issue of social security is vital to ensuring a positive future for this country.
  • Sarkozy Starts Visit to Israel - The French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, begins a three-day visit to Israel on Sunday in what the press back home is reporting as further proof of an improvement in relations between the two countries. It'll be only the third time a French president has visited Israel, and Sarkozy is likely to have a far more conciliatory tone than his predecessors. That shouldn't be too difficult. In 1996, during a visit to Jeruslam's old town, Jacques Chirac lost his rag with Israeli security as he was jostled during a walkabout and famously threatened to take the first 'plane home.
  • The Audacity Of Reality - Every day, I am am bombarded by the ever-present drivel that we call "news" in this country. By the time my head hits a wrinkled, unintentionally drool-stained pillow, my mind is awash in opinion, conjecture, and a range of commentary that is inexcusably vast. I've heard from Stewart, Colbert, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Will, Dowd, Huffington, Morriss, and countless blogs that drive me toward outrage, boycotts, and protests in front of my local Starbucks. Mostly they talk about Bush, arguing that he is competent/incompetent, Iraq is one of the worst/not-so-bad things to ever happen.
  • Prince Albert Of Monaco Hits 50 - He has a world of glamour as his kingdom, and Prince Albert of Monaco could be forgiven for enjoying life to the full and simply having the best of times in and around Monaco. But as the prince turns 50, his reputation is deservedly a more serious one among his fellow world leaders. For far from spending all his time in Monte Carlo's casino and rubbing shoulders with Grand Prix drivers, actresses and multi millionaires, he is just as likely to be found trekking the North Pole or maing an impassioned speech about the environment at events in Europe and around the world. In the world of politics, Monaco has extended her influence since Albert became Sovereign by opening new consulates in both London and New York.

  • Comics For Extra Credit - Part 3 - I've got Ironman to blame for catching the comic bug over the past few weeks. This weekend I went to see another Marvel character, The Incredible Hulk, be re-introduced to the public. This is the second Hulk movie in five years; the previous Hulk, directed by Ang Lee, more famous for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with its martial artistry and Yo Yo Ma soundtrack, was a complete flop. The 2008 Hulk has far more promising;
  • Italian Foods and Eating Style are a fairly relaxed affair - When it comes to talking about Italy, food is everything - sitting around a table after a long day working or at the beach, it is food that brings the family together. • US Military Resigns - Choosing Court; Bring On The Draft - What would happen if many in the US Military simply resigned? Benefit to them: If US military volunteers would just resign, their risk of war zone deployment or any further service would be over! The military’s “back door draft” (Inactive Ready Reserve) policy subjects them to be called up, again, for active duty service even after their current enlistment periods are over.
  • Video Streaming – A New Town Hall - It was a night in July 2007 when a new town hall was discovered. Men and women from around the United States participated in a debate of sorts between 2008 Presidential hopefuls on the Democratic ticket. What made this event unique is not that the candidates took their message on the road, but that the candidates received questions via video streaming site YouTube.

  • Where Is A Good Liberal When You Need One? - I believe compassion is a desire to help other people that is so overwhelming that you cannot help but go and help yourself. All my life I have heard about how compassionate liberals are and how greedy conservatives are. I have spent years looking for compassionate liberals. I am here to tell you that they are hard to find. Yet everywhere I turn I find compassionate conservatives. In fact it seems that almost every greedy person I meet is a liberal. It seems that the definition that the media and liberal organizations for compassion is the willingness to force other people to give. They are compassionate because they support higher taxes from everyone to do those jobs that they are not willing to do themselves. I have a different idea of compassion.
  • France Faces Fine Over Lack of Hamster Love - Weird but true, France is being threatened with a €17 million penalty if it doesn’t clean up its act and come up with a strategy to save the European hamster, one of the continent’s most threatened species. Last week the European Commission, the executive branch of the 27-member European Union, gave France a two-month deadline or else it would have to cough up the whopping fine for failing to comply with the Habitats Directive (yes we’re in Eurobabbleland here) to prevent the rodent’s extinction. The Directive requires all member states to designate sites for conservation and to protect various listed species.
  • Twice an Orphan - Barmy Bureaucracy or Welfare of the Child? You Judge. - Last weekend here in France an 11-year-old boy, Joris, found himself effectively orphaned for the second time. He was taken into care after his father, 34-year-old Aboubakar Coulibaly, was deported back to his native Côte d'Ivoire. Coulibaly had been granted sole custody of Joris back in March 2006 after the child's mother committed suicide. In spite of looking after his son for a year under the supervision of the local authorities in the west-central department of Maine-et-Loire and the agreement of a family judge, Coulibaly only had a temporary residence and work permit. In addition he had a criminal record, thus in the eyes of the law disqualifying him from being allowed to remain permanently in France. Coulibaly had not only spent time in prison but had also been served deportation papers back in 2005.
  • Should Jose Medellin Be Executed? - Jose Medellin is a convicted rapist. Jose Medellin is a convicted murderer. Fourteen years ago he was sentenced to death for participating in the gang rape and murder of Elizabeth Pena, 16 and Jennifer Ertman who was 14. The girls had tragically wandered upon a gang initiation. This would seem to be just one more routine execution of which Texas leads the nation. It would also seem that if anyone deserved to be executed, Mr. Medellin should certainly have that place in death penalty lore. There is one minor twist. Mr. Medellin is a Mexican citizen. He was allegedly denied access to the Mexican consulate after his arrest which is a violation of the Vienna Convention. Mr. Medellin was allegedly never told he had the right to see a Mexican consular officer as required by the Convention.
  • The gift of chat rooms - Chat rooms are created to hold discussions about any topic. They are popular, real-time modes of Internet communication used to initiate, establish, and maintain online relationships. Chat rooms are the highly popular and freewheeling areas on the internet where people with self-created nicknames discuss just about anything: teachers, Kafka, cute boys, politics, love, root canals. They can be like any other organized gathering of people; there are rules of etiquette that everyone is expected to follow. The oldest form of true chat rooms are the text-based variety.
  • Misogyny Is Alive, But Never Well - Gender and race in Politics: Is it real? Is it important? Is it a distraction? Is it a way to divide and separate people from important discourse and meaningful discussion? Or when someone blurts out a statement that is innocent enough, and then is twisted and pigeon-holed into race and gender stereotypes, I have to wonder--are these statements bringing controversies out of the proverbial closet and making people look carefully at themselves?
  • Pompeii: A City Of Death Lives On - It's Europe - without the cost, without the politics, and without the other thousands of tourists! Pompeii has become more of a living museum than an excavation site since its discovery in the 1700s. Millions flock to the ancient Italian city to explore this pristine time capsule that has taken over 250 years to be slowly and delicately uncovered. It takes at least one full day to be able to truly take in all of Pompeii's many intricate discoveries.

  • MLM Training- The 5 Things We Can Learn From Barack Obama For Home Business Success - Out of nowhere this hurricane came and blew everyone else out of the water. Quietly. Silently. Deadly. And I may not agree with a lot of his politics, but I have to applaud him for some amazing marketing. I stand in awe of what he and his team did in order to get his message out. There are 5 things that I have discovered that Barack did that I believe will stand as potentially marketing genius. He did a wonderful job on the marketing of his campaign. Yes, there was the Reverend Wright debacle, but everyone gets a mulligan.
  • Can The Country Afford Hillary Clinton As President - Before I start I would like to admit that I am a conservative. I am not a Republican, I despise President Bush for his big spending policies and I am sorry I ever voted for him.
  • The Basics Of The Student Loan Mess - These past weeks there has been talk in the higher education press about private lenders and state guarantee agencies either withdrawing from the government-subsidized student loan market or refusing to underwrite new loans. These financial institutions cite either a cash crunch or a credit crunch, or reductions in the federal interest subsidy as the reasons for pulling back on such loans. These are all legitimate reasons for the private financial markets to back out. Student loans were never meant to be a profit center when they were first proposed by the federal government under President Eisenhower.
  • Dati Does U-Turn on Virginity Annulment Marriage - The French justice minister, Rachida Dati, has once again shown that she has a less than a firm grasp of her job by doing a complete volte face in a case that has been making the headlines here in France over the past week. On Monday Dati asked the public prosecutors office to appeal a court ruling, which had annulled a marriage because the wife had lied about being a virgin. When the case first came to public attention last week, Dati refused to intervene (she actually supported the decision by the court). But a heated debate has since raged – largely fuelled by the media – and the justice minister (or is it the president, Nicolas Sarkozy?) has now decided it’s time to act.
