  • Increasing Your Mainframe’s IQ - Even in this day and age there are thousands of companies whose core business applications are running on 20 or 30 year old mainframes. There are many reasons for this but probably they boil down to the old adage ‘if it ain't broken, don't fix it’. There is no doubt that mainframes do a great job in high-volume transaction processing or calculation-intensive processes such as statistical analysis. They continue to offer un-paralleled reliability and security; they can function for years without interruption, even during maintenance or upgrade operations. It is not for nothing that RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) is a term that defines mainframe computers.
  • How Innovation Can Help Hospitals to Improve Their Revenue Cycle - The Healthcare debate continues. But as Republicans and Democrats race to present proposals to improve what appears to be a terribly inefficient healthcare system, we need to ask the question: What can hosptials do today to improve their efficiency? If you have ever received treatment at a hospital in the US you have probably been exposed to some of the admin complexity that this entails. Such are the innefficiencies in the administration processes that according to the American Hospital Association sixty percent of hospitals lose money providing patient care. To be precise, Healthcare Providers lose $60bn per year because of administrative errors.

  • Where To Find Dental Products For Pets? - Oscar is having a difficult time of his life. He is always experiencing painful dental problems for many weeks now. Some of his teeth were chipped off and every time he eats, his gums always hurt because of damaged teeth. It would be simple for anyone to go to his dentist and have it diagnosed for teeth problems, let the dentist extract a damaged tooth or teeth but not for Oscar. It's not that simple for him. He can't even complain orally about it.

  • You Are The Chosen One - Yesterday I was watching a rerun and it reminded of a movie going experience a few years back. While we were all flooding out of the theater after The Matrix, I turned to Oscar, one of the kids I mentor, and asked, "Do you think YOU are chosen for greatness like Neo was?" His answer, without hesitation, was "Yes." For the next week, I asked everyone I spoke with the same question, and I ran into the same answer time and time again. It wasn't long before my mind started asking me, "Are we all headed for greatness? Do we all have a larger purpose?" That would mean everyone on this earth was the "chosen one." Could that be true?

  • "Ed Wood" Is a Very Strange Movie About a Very Strange Real Life Director - Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley Ed Wood – 1 Star – Terrible "Ed Wood" is a biographical movie about Edward D. Wood, Jr. who has been dubbed the worst director in the history of filmmaking. There is no close second and not even a distant second to Wood's "worst director" label. The movie depicts the life of Ed Wood in the 1950s and shows Wood as a very determined director with virtually no financial backing and no real talent. Wood liked to direct really bad films and enjoyed dressing as a woman on the set. He was apparently surrounded by equally inept and untalented wannabes who were broke or down on their luck. Wood made such films as "Glen or Glenda", "Bride of the Monster" and "Plan 9 From Outer Space".
  • Four Average Movies That Do Not Get Any Better the Second Time Around - Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley Here are four average movies that do not get any better the second time around: Anger Management - 2 Stars (Average) Anger Management brings young Adam Sandler together with old Jack Nicholson in a dippy comedy that borders on a romantic comedy without the dramatic bent. Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler) is a businessman who is wrongly sentenced to an anger-management program following an incident on airline flight, but insult is added to injury when Dr. Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson), an aggressive, unorthodox therapist, becomes his live in roommate during rehabilitation. This film is dominated by Nicholson, has a script that begs for better lines, and becomes annoying after awhile, which is very similar to Nicholson's character in the movie.

  • Be The Next Oscar Wilde With A Home Mortgage Refinancing Lender - Anybody can write but not everybody can be a writer. The mark of a true writer is the ability to express him or herself with eloquence and grace. Writing, however, is more than just stringing words together in a dramatic fashion. What Makes A True Writer? A true writer has something to say. It could be a message or an opinion of great importance that could stir even the most passive of audiences. It doesn’t matter how trivial or how crucial a subject is. A real writer can write about a home mortgage refinancing lender or a lengthy dissertation on an Oscar Wilde novel and will still have his or her readers gripped.

  • "Friendly Persuasion" Finds a Pacifist Quaker Family in the Middle of a War - Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley Friendly Persuasion - 3 Stars (Good) If "Friendly Persuasion" was produced 52 years after its original release in 1956, it might have won some of the 6 Oscar nominations it received, such as Best Sound and Best Writing, not to mention Best Picture and Best Director. The technical advancements in moviemaking today are light years ahead of where they were when William Wyler directed this simple film about a simple family in a very complicated situation.

This is a story that illuminates everything that is wrong about hate, prejudice, bigotry, ignorance, stupidity, lack of backbone and lack of a heart. It is a story about an all-white male jury who makes important life decisions without right thinking and right motives. Finch (Gregory Peck) suffers retribution because of his defense of Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) who is accused of raping Mayella Violet Ewell (Collin Wilcox). • A Jewish Family Flees Germany and Settles "Nowhere in Africa" - Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley Nowhere in Africa (Nirgendwo in Afrika) - 3 Stars (Good) Only Walter could see it coming. His extended family in Germany could not see that Adolph Hitler would turn on his own German citizens who were Jewish. Walter was a professional, a judge and a German citizen, not a Jew who happened to be a German citizen. He would leave Germany and take his family to Africa in 1938. Walter was right. During World War II from 1941 to 1945, Hitler and his Nazi regime would murder more than 6 million Jews in a program of planned extermination. Walter and his family would escape death, but many members of his extended family would not, they would be divided and scattered in concentration camps to suffer atrocities and die.
  • "Breakfast on Pluto" Is Really Not About an Alien from Outer Space - Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley Breakfast on Pluto – 2 Stars (Average) Breakfast on Pluto is a gender preference movie about a boy who really wants to be a girl, and settles for being a transvestite trying to find a place in a world that curses his very existence. Irish actor Cillian Murphy plays Patrick "Kitten" Braden in a controversial film due to the subject matter. It is very difficult to make a great film. It is difficult to make a good film. It is almost impossible to make a good film when the subject matter is not even on the radar screen of the average viewer.
  • "Waking Ned Devine" by Kirk Jones Is the Best Comedy I Have Ever Seen - Part 1 - Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley Waking Ned Devine - 4 Stars (Excellent) Sooner or later one has to come clean. • "Tipping the Velvet" Is First Alternative Lifestyle Film with an Educational Message - Part 1 - Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley Tipping the Velvet - 4 Stars (Excellent) "Tipping the Velvet" is what some viewers would consider a terrible film about a sinful, raunchy lifestyle, and what I would consider an excellent film despite any apparent raunchiness. After writing 135 reviews, including what I would consider 8 alternative lifestyle films, Tipping the Velvet is the absolute best film and only the second film among the 8 in this genre that I would recommend seeing. Here are the films I considered terrible and the reasons why.

  • Pardon Me, I Am Gushing Again About Movie's Incomparable Audrey Hepburn - Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley Like a lot of shoppers at supermarkets, I look at the magazine displays while waiting in line to check out. Recently I was thrilled to see a recent edition to LIFE's Great Photographers Series: "Remembering Audrey 15 Years Later" with photographs by Bob Willoughby. In my review of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" I posed this question: Was there ever an actress who combined these four timeless qualities—beauty, fashion, grace and humility—better than Audrey Hepburn?
  • "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" Is Difficult to Understand But Rewarding - Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley The Five People You Meet in Heaven - 2 Stars (Average) For anyone who has read Mitch Albom's book Tuesdays With Morrie, it was axiomatic to read The Five People You Meet in Heaven and then see the movie. Albom was asked why it took him so long between his first two books, he said "To be honest, I was a bit overwhelmed by Tuesdays' success. At first, nobody wanted to publish that book or talk much about it. "Then, suddenly, all anyone wanted me to do was write a sequel. I knew I didn't want to do that. I said everything in that book that I had to say about the last class between Morrie and me. So I waited until something inspired me the way that book did.
  • Best Known Dance Films - Ever since Al Jolson spoke the first words on screen in 1927's The Jazz Singer, singing and dancing have been a big part of the movies. Here are some of the best-known films involving dancing over the years: Saturday Night Fever (1977): John Travolta became an icon in this tale of a working-class Brooklyn guy who comes alive when he hits the dance floor each night. The Bee Gees-saturated soundtrack became one of the best-selling albums of all time, and Travolta's white disco suit was later purchased by film critic Gene Siskel. Travolta has since become known for dancing in many of his biggest hits, including Grease and Pulp Fiction. A sequel to this film, Stayin' Alive, was directed by Sylvester Stallone, though it proved unsuccessful with critics and audiences.

  • You Cannot Forget Captain Jack Sparrow, But National Treasure Is One Heck of a Hunt - Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley National Treasure – 3 Stars (Good) It took an inordinately long time for movie land to bring us a modern day treasure hunt worth watching, but Director Jon Turteltaub delivered big time in National Treasure, the story of a secret treasure that crosses the centuries. National Treasure is the story of a vast bounty that continues to grow and change hands throughout time until confiscated by the Knights Templar as early as the 11th Century during the Crusades. The Knights Templar become the modern day Masons. Eventually the treasure finds its way to our shores, and our founding fathers, several of whom were Masons, hide the treasure to help finance the Revolutionary War against the British.
  • Canadian Singing Sensation Celine Dion Launches Her Taking Chances Tour - Canada has had its fair share of musical divas. Ask someone to name a famous Canadian chanteuse and you're likely to hear a range of possible candidates: Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne, K.D. Lang, Nelly Furtado, Shania Twain or Sarah McLachlan, perhaps. Maybe Anne Murray if you're talking old school. Throw in a few strategic hints, though, and that list suddenly shrinks down to one. * Her record sales top 200 million worldwide. * She's one of fourteen children born into a French Canadian family. * Married to her long-term manager (who happens to be 26 years her senior). * Her fragrance line has sold to the tune of an estimated $500 million USD. * She's the subject of countless Saturday Night Live parodies. * She sang "My Heart Will Go On," the Oscar-winning ballad from the film, Titanic.
  • Are you oblivious to the gold around you? - What could be your easiest and most profitable promotion may be lying there, right under your nose. It seems that nearly every small business owner I talk to is constantly looking for new customers. Despite the fact that more emphasis should be put on your existing clients than finding new, there is a formula you can follow to attract more than enough new ones.
  • For Romance Without Any Stress, "Sleepless in Seattle" Is the Cure - Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley If you were celebrating Valentines Day with a candlelight dinner for two at home and settled in to watch a movie, "Sleepless in Seattle" would be a great choice because it provides a pleasant experience and is already becoming a romantic comedy classic. Your parents or grandparents experienced a similar story line in the now classic "An Affair to Remember" that was released in 1957 and paired Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Their characters fall in love and agree to meet in 6 months at the Empire State Building in New York.
  • "Forest Gump" Teaches Many Lessons, and Tom Hanks Earns Best Actor Oscar - Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley Forrest Gump - 4 Stars (Excellent) "Forrest Gump" begins with a feather being lifted through the air by a breeze that brings it to the feet of Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), who is sitting at a bus stop in Savannah (GA). Gump picks it up and puts it in a "Curious George" children's book. He then begins to tell the story of his life to the first of several people who are waiting with him for the next bus. Some of the people are great listeners and others are not, but make no mistake about it, Gump is a master storyteller. He is simple, unpretentious, honest, not bright and full of integrity. For such a humble person, his story is almost unbelievable.
